Event Details

Inspired by the remarkable life story of Wyoming educator, peace activist, and crossdresser Larry “Sissy” Goodwin (1946-2020) a Playwright’s Reading of “A Sissy in Wyoming” will be presented by dramatist and historian Gregory Hinton at the Lincoln Cheyenne as part of “A Sissy in Wyoming – A Cowboy State Tour” honoring National LGBTQ History Month. “The story of Sissy Goodwin is a triumph of will; a cry for courage and an extraordinary Cowboy State love story spanning fifty years,” explains Hinton.
Initiated by oral historian Leslie Waggener of the American Heritage Center, funding partners include Wyoming Humanities, Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, and Wyoming State Historical Society.
A moderated “Q & A” with Hinton and Goodwin’s wife, the author and activist Vickie Jones Goodwin, follows the reading.
