Event Details

Have you been in to the brewery lately and wondered about that toy that’s being tossed around?
First we’re gonna tell ya… then we’re gonna show ya!

In a nutshell it is a freestyle skill toy, meant for tricks & juggles, to challenge your hand-eye coordination and muscle memory.

The history of the predecessor of the Kendama goes back as far as 16th century France but made its way to Japan in 1777. There it was played as an adult drinking game where one would drink more if mistakes were made. In our experience many, many, MANY mistakes are made, so we imagine everyone who played “sword & ball” was pretty shwasted back then.

We want to bring the history of Kendama to life ~ but in a 21st century way. Enter, Damas & Drafts.

Our local jammer Nick Ray will be joining us at Freedoms to spread the love for kendama and show us all some beginner tricks to try out w some of his kendamas, while we (responsibly) drink some draft crafts.

We look forward to seeing you catch your first ball in cup!

There is no cost for this event.
Tips & tokens are appreciated.

Kendama has health benefits too:
•improves hand-eye coordination
•low impact cardio
•exercise for the brain
•and more…

The Japan Kendama Association established rules for play, as well as scoring and competition organizing. They have listed 101 official tricks, though there are thousands of combos and variations out there. If you want to grow your dama game or know more, there is a global community out there sharing tips and tricks on the internet.

If you want your own kendama (did we mention this game is kind of addicting!?)

And many more! Just google kendama and see where the internet takes you ~ as this toys popularity continues to grow so will the availability of sites to find your favorite (Amazon, EBay, etc etc).
