17th Street Lighting

About the 17th Street Lighting Project

The warm, welcoming lights twinkling above 17th Street in Downtown Cheyenne are the end result of the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority (DDA)’s 17th Street Lighting Project, initially approved by Laramie County voters via the 2012 Sixth Penny Tax.

Work on the project first began in the fall of 2016, with the final installment marked by a lighting ceremony in summer 2024.

Since implementation, the lights—extending from Warren Avenue to Carey Avenue in Cheyenne’s Downtown District—have become a recognizable feature of the area, as well as enhanced pedestrian safety and community pride.
